New Edition of CSA S406-14 Specification of Permanent Wood Foundations

The CSA Group recently published a new edition of CSA S406-14 Specification of permanent wood foundations for housing and small buildings. This first new edition since 1992 is a result of the support of the WPC and CWPA members, and contributions of regulators, builders, and users from across Canada. The 2014 edition of CSA S406 includes the following major changes: (a) 3-storey construction is now permitted, with revised design tables; (b) building widths have been increased from 8 m to 12 m; (c) sealant and damp proofing requirements have been revised, with optional drainage layers added; (d) variable granular bed depths are now specified; (e) nail diameters and spacing have been included; (f) the minimum stud size has been increased from 38 mm x 89 mm to 38 mm x 140 mm; (g) details for wall openings and walkouts have been revised; and (h) tabulated framing and plywood sheathing requirements…

CWPA 34th Annual Meeting

His considerable expertise in the field of wood protection is renowned and we are particularly fortunate to welcome him to give his keynote address on “Biological Resistance of Wood-Based Composites” which will lead off our symposium on Users of Durable Wood. 2013 Wood Solutions Fair

Wood Preservation Canada will be present at the 2013 Wood Solutions Fair in Edmonton, Alberta and in Toronto, Ontario. The Edmonton show will take place on October 16, 2013 at the River Creek Marriott Hotel and the Toronto show will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (South Building) on November 12, 2013.

Wood Preservation Canada Past and Future Meetings

Wood Preservation Canada recently hosted its 2013 Annual General Meeting at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre on April 14-16 in Kelowna, B.C. WPC activities were discussed and other organization representatives including Western Wood Preservers Institute, Treated Wood Council, North American Wood Pole Council, Southern Pressure Treaters’ Association, the Canadian Plywood Association and the Canadian Wood Council reported on their recent activities. The next WPC meeting will take place on October 27-28, 2013 at the Pantages Hotel in Toronto. The meeting will be in conjunction with the Canadian Wood Preservation Association 34th Annual Meeting on October 29-30 and CSA A366 technical meeting on the 31st.

Pressure Treated Wood, A New Look at a Traditional Product.
